How much German pensions will rise on 1 July 2027 is not yet known as of 28 October 2026. Under section 65 of Social Code Book VI pensions are adjusted on 1 July every year; under section 69 the Federal Government sets the new pension value by regulation with the consent of the Bundesrat, by 30 June at the latest. Until 2031 the floor rule applies: the value is set so that the pension level stays at 48 per cent, which depends mainly on the previous year's wage growth. The last adjustments are known: 4.57 per cent in 2024, 3.74 per cent in 2025 and 4.24 per cent on 1 July 2026, when the pension value rose from 40.79 to 42.52 euros. The payment day is certain: the first pension at the new value is July's, paid on 30 July 2027. If your pension started before April 2004, it already comes on 30 June 2027. We publish no forecasts.

How the decision is made

Up to and including 2031, the pension value is set under the floor rule so that the pension level stays at 48 per cent; the former adjustment formula is suspended until then (German Pension Insurance). Pensions therefore broadly follow wages. The Federal Government sets the result by regulation, the Bundesrat consents, and the new value applies from 1 July (section 65 and section 69 SGB VI). For 2026 the resulting pension value was €42.52 per earnings point. This site has no calculator for the amount; your pension is shown in the adjustment notice.

Common questions

By what percentage will the German pension rise in 2027?

That has not been set. The Federal Government fixes the value by regulation once the previous year's wage data are in, by 30 June 2027 at the latest. Figures mentioned before then are estimates. We will adopt the value once it has been decided and published.

When does the first higher pension arrive in 2027?

For pensions started in April 2004 or later, on 30 July 2027, because 31 July is a Saturday. For pensions started before April 2004, on 30 June 2027, because those pensions are paid in advance for the following month. The pension insurance sends a notice of the new amount beforehand.

Do I have to apply for the pension increase?

No. The adjustment applies automatically to every pension in payment. You receive a written notice with the new amount, which also takes health and long-term care contributions into account. There is no application for it. The first higher payment comes with the pension for July.
